Staged by the MKM Museum Küppersmühle, the exhibition “Insights”, is showcasing some 90 works from the collection of the National-Bank. Among the artists featured are Siegfried Anzinger, Stephan Balkenhol, Joseph Beuys, Peter Bömmels, Abraham David Christian, Tony Cragg, David Czupryn, Richard Deacon, Peter Doig, Ulrich Erben, Pia Fries, Katharina Grosse, Jörg Immendorff, Konrad Klapheck, Imi Knoebel, Paco Knöller, Bernd Koberling, Dieter Krieg, Markus Lüpertz, A.R. Penck, Klaus Rinke, Leunora Salihu, Katharina Sieverding, Norbert Tadeusz, Günther Uecker, Tatjana Valsang, Cornelius Völker and Franz Erhard Walther.
Throughout the past decades the National-Bank has built up an outstanding collection from which the MKM is now presenting a selection of key artistic positions – to coincide with the bank’s 100th Anniversary this year. The primary focus of the collection is essentially regional, dedicated to artists from the state of North Rhine-Westphalia and former alumni of the Düsseldorf Academy of Art, many of whom have risen to achieve world-wide fame. Furnishing a comprehensive cross-section of the collection, “Insights” highlights both the diversity and broad spectrum of the featured artists and their artistic practice.

Over the years, the Bank has established itself as a major patron of arts in Germany, and for the past 15 years has loyally supported the MKM. “(…) Such commitment is extraordinary.”, explains MKM director Walter Smerling. “It is inspired by a profound appreciation of art and springs from an enlightened mindset: Seeing is thinking, and promoting the arts is an investment in education. This is an invitation to staff and clients, and to the general public to engage with art and its identity-sustaining influence. The National-Bank is a flagship of arts patronage in Germany, in the best sense of the word. Culture, to quote the bank’s own words, is part of our DNA.”
