ROLF-GUNTER DIENST | My Poetry is Colour
July 1 to September 18, 2016
MKM Museum Küppersmühle for Modern Art
The painter Rolf-Gunter Dienst (1942-2016) is best known for his “written” paintings, in which he combines colour with scriptive elements, inspired by art, literature and music. The MKM is devoting a comprehensive retrospective to the artist who was also an acclaimed author and art critic.
Surveying Dienst’s entire oeuvre, the show details his development from his early works, strongly influenced by the Informel movement, and his initial essays with his signature “Kürzel” or cipher, which was to become the organisational principle of his paintings, through to his more recent canvases, which reflect his continuing pre-occupation with the paintings’ internal structure and the impact of colour.
